Applied Carbon
In-field biochar processing
Applied Carbon (fka Climate Robotics) is an agricultural robotics company that creates biochar directly in-field from agricultural residue and is used as a soil amendment to address soil acidification, moisture retention, and nutrient bioavailability. The biochar is cost-competitive with soil amendments that are typically used to treat the ~20%+ of US acreage that is experiencing acidification. This can boost yield and reduce nitrogen requirements over time without additional inputs while restoring the carbon content of the soil. This biochar also displaces GHG emissions from ag lime and directly sequesters carbon with thousand-year durability, something that will be separately monetized as carbon credits.
